A Harvard Business Review article notes the importance of data scientists as organizations increasingly rely on data analytics and artificial intelligence to enhance decision-making and project execution. What is also becoming increasingly important are translators. These are people with deep industry experience and a large degree of technological savviness.

Translators act as a bridge between those with operational expertise in the supply chain, risk, and manufacturing areas with the data scientists and data engineers. Translators work so that the insights derived from data analysis can be transformed into productive outcomes for the client organization. McKinsey Global Institute projects that by 2026, the US demand for translators may range from two to four million.
